Shaan reacts to his Eid post, says he felt bad about negative comments: ‘Don’t have such polarised thoughts…’
Singer Shaan recently took to his social media to address the polarising comments his Eid post had gotten.

Singer Shaan recently took to his social media to share a concern after he wished his fans Eid Mubarak a couple of days ago. The artiste said that he had taken a screenshot from one of his music videos which was made three years ago, called “Karam Kar Dein” for the occasion.
In the said image, Shaan is seen doing namaz while dressed as a section of more traditional Muslims do. Shaan said that the comments under it disturbed him enough to conduct an Instagram Live to address the situation.
Speaking in a mix of Hindi and English, Shaan stated, “I have come to live after a few days. Today is Eid, Parshuram festival and Akshay Tritya. I had shared an Instagram post to wish my fans on Eid which is a screenshot from a music video I did three years ago, where I am reading namaaz. I have come to Mangalore for an event, and I have been seeing the comments on it, that why, despite being a Hindu, I posted that where I am dressed as Muslims would. I have gone to the Golden Temple as well and shared photos where you are required to cover your head. But there, I did not see such reactions.”

Further explaining that he wanted to speak more openly about the topic, Shaan said, “This is not a justification, but this live is merely being done because I wanted to talk about this a bit more. If you want to give that occasion or moment its due respect in a certain way, why is there such an issue over it? That post or that wish is not going to change the way I feel about my faith or you about yours. So why so much noise over it? We are a progressive nation, but if we cannot even harbour this much respect and tolerance for other faiths and religions than our own, we won’t make any progress. I want people to think about these things. I am a Hindu and Brahmin, but I am also a person and I am an Indian so I know how to respect everyone’s culture.”
Adding that a lot of his friends are Muslims, Shaan said he felt bad about the comments his Eid post received: “Don’t think such polarised thoughts, you will only hurt each other. We are a democracy. We should be more inclusive and we should look towards creating a beautiful world, not just a beautiful country.”
Fans were impressed with Shaan’s forward and secular way of thought as one wrote, “Shaan I’m a bigger fan today. Exactly the thoughts of progressive true Indians. God bless.” Another mentioned, “Sir please ignore everything. Eid Mubarak.”
Shaan grew up in Bandra, Mumbai, and made his playback singing debut in 1999 with the movie Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. Besides his decades long career in playback singing, Shaan has also sung in and produced multiple independent albums.
