Palash Sen exposes scripted reality shows, names the singers who don’t lip-sync during live performances

“It is a shame,” he said, adding, “It happens not only in India, but all over the world. There’s no truth left.” He said that this is the era of ‘perfection’, and the industry is obsessed with presenting perfect faces and voices.

Palash also spoke about his experiences as a reality show judge, and recalled getting into arguments with his fellow judge Daler Mehndi on the show, Fame X. He said, “There is no such thing as reality on those shows. I tried to be a crusader for the truth on one of those shows. I used to get in arguments with Daler paaji. He would always follow the script, but I was fighting for the truth. Who can judge beauty and singing? It’s all subjective. These days, everybody sings very well. So often, you’re surprised when a talented singer is eliminated. But he’s eliminated only because they know his elimination will be shocking. The debate about scripted reality shows has been raging for quite some time now. Recently, Mini Mathur said that she quit as the host of Indian Idol when she realised that they were trying to ‘construct’ reality.
