Years after speaking out against the Grammys, Lorde and Weeknd find themselves snubbed with zero nominations

Lorde had released her fourth studio album titled Virgin this year, while The Weeknd released his sixth studio album called Hurry Up Tomorrow.

The nominations for the upcoming Grammys are out, and there are a lot of disappointed fans unleashing hate across the internet. While artistes like Justin Bieber and Sabrina Carpenter found their respective albums nominated for the coveted ‘Album of the year’, artistes like Lorde and The Weeknd came out empty-handed. They both received zero nominations this year, despite their albums doing extremely well on streaming platforms and their live shows being sold out.

Lorde’s fans didn’t take long to storm the internet about her being kept off the ballot this year. Some fans pointed out that the Recording Academy is exacting some sort of revenge on the artiste after she spoke against them in 2018. Back then, Lorde’s album Melodrama was up for Album of the Year, and unlike all the other male artistes in the category, she wasn’t offered a solo spot to perform at the event.

She was told that she could be a part of a tribute performance to Tom Petty, and this did not sit right with the singer. Lorde took to her X (then Twitter), and in a now-deleted post invited all her doubters to come and see her live. Her mother also hit back at the Recording Academy, as she posted the picture of an NYT article and circled the part that said, “Out of the 899 people nominated in the last six Grammy Awards, the report found, 9 per cent were women. This year Lorde is the only woman nominated for album of the year; she is not scheduled to perform.”

While Lorde’s feeling towards the Grammys have been pretty clear for a long time, The Weeknd’s relationship with the award show is a bit confusing. Like many other artistes in the past, the R&B singer decided to boycott the event after his album ‘After Hours’ was snubbed. However, his anger subsided, and he ended the boycott during this year’s function, where he performed songs from his latest album. Ironically, that same album is now out of the running.

Other artistes who are believed to be snubbed by their fans are Benson Boone, who released his second album, American Heart, and Gracie Abrams, whose song ‘That’s So True’ was one of the biggest hits of the year. For the Taylor Swift fans wondering where her name is, her album The Life of a Showgirl was released after the cutoff period for this year’s awards ended, which was August 31, 2024, to August 30, 2025. Her latest album was released on October 3, 2025.
