Indian Ocean’s Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam issue a statement after co-founder Susmit Sen initiates court procedure against them: ‘We are saddened to learn…’
Former member of Indian Ocean, Susmit Sen, has leveled criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating, misappropriation, falsification of accounts and more allegations against band members Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam.

Indian Ocean members Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam have responded to their band’s co-founder Susmit Sen filing a police complaint against them on the charges of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating, misappropriation, falsification of accounts, and more. Releasing an official statement, Rahul and Amit said that they were “saddened” to learn from the media that a police complaint was filed against them by their former bandmate. However, they said that they would be cooperating with the police.
The statement reads:
We are saddened to learn from the media that a police complaint has been filed against us by Mr Susmit Sen (Former member of Indian Ocean) and Ms Sunita Chakravorty (Spouse of former Indian Ocean member Asheem Chakravorty). We have not seen a copy of the complaint as yet and thus cannot address it on it’s merits.
There is a pending matter in the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) between the share holders for more than a year . That case is still in process, and thus everything therein is sub-judice. It is thus quite a surprise to us that a police complaint has been filed with what appears to be the same issue considered by NCLT. Filing of a criminal complaint on what is evidently a civil law issue seems to be an afterthought and to arm twist us to agree to their illegal and unwarranted demands.
Nevertheless, we shall cooperate fully with the police in any enquiry they choose to carry out. We are quite aware that the complaints are essentially frivolous and mala fide and completely confident about the legality of all procedures carried out by us.

Rahul and Amit’s statement comes in response to a police complaint Susmit filed on August 16 in Delhi. The charges include alleged criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating, misappropriation, falsification of accounts, money laundering, embezzlement, and more.
On this, Sushmit, in a statement to India Today, had said, “Having founded the band with Ashim [Chakravarty], it gives me no pleasure to take police action against it today. In fact, it was my father [Ajit Kumar Sen] who had named the band that I formed with Ashim in 1990, and I am still a shareholder at the company [Kandisa Music Productions Pvt Ltd] that runs the band. I had handpicked the two members of this band back then, against whom I have been compelled by circumstances to take police action. What I have had to go through is really unfortunate, given that me and Ashim had founded the band, and I was its composer and lead guitarist. It is needless to say I was an integral member of the Indian Ocean.”
Indian Ocean is an Indian rock band formed in New Delhi in 1990. The band originally comprised of members Susmit Sen, Asheem Chakravarty, Rahul Ram and Amit Kilam. The band is widely recognised as the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India.
