AMA Awards: Jennifer Lopez is in her unhinged era as she kissed back-up dancers during her opening performance at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas.

Jennifer Lopez returned after a decade as the host of the American Music Awards, at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on Monday. She not only performed on 23 hits, both of her and other singers, across a six-minute intro, but also turned the proceedings steamy by kissing three backup dancers on stage.

After the halfway mark, when Lopez danced to Teddy Swims’ Lose Control and Tinashe’s Nasty, she kissed a male dancer before immediately kissing a woman dancer who came to her. The live audience cheered their hearts out as they saw Lopez unleash herself on stage. While the kiss-offs would clearly be the highlight of her performance, the rest of the performance was iconic as well.

While she started with a slowed-down version of her 2012 hit Dance Again, she then went on to dance to Kendrick Lamar’s Squabble Up, Doechii’s Denial Is a River, Shaboozey’s A Bar Song, Bruno Mars and Rosé’s APT, Chappell Roan’s Hot to Go Good Luck, Babe. She ended with Lamar too, dancing to a mashup of his hits Not Like Us and TV Off.

Hours before kicking off the ceremony, Lopez revealed via an Instagram Story that she got a cut on her nose during rehearsals. She had to rush to a popular plastic surgeon in Las Vegas and thanked the doctor on her Story for “stitching me up.” She has been rehearsing for a couple of weeks on what she called her first “big television performance in a while.”

“I took last year off and I went back in and my first thing was doing a movie,” Lopez told People, adding, “So, this is getting back into my performance mode in a way. We’re going to be celebrating all the music of the year.” Lopez will channel the same unhinged energy as she goes on her first tour in six years, Up All Night Live, which will begin in Egypt on July 4.

“It seems like a perfect summer to celebrate being free and being happy. Just everything in my life right now just feels really healthy and good, and I’m ready to get out there and make people sing and dance and have a good time. That’s always my goal,” Lopez said. On the film front, Lopez will be next seen in Kiss of the Spider Woman and Office Romance, which she’s also producing.

Lopez took a break last year after her divorce with actor-filmmaker Ben Affleck in August. They’d separated months before in April. The divorce got finalized earlier this year in January.
