The Gujarati track ‘Khalasi,’ performed by singer Aditya Gadhvi, has emerged as a viral sensation. Not only are people enjoying the song for what it is, but multiple renditions and dance performance videos have flooded social media platforms. The song was released by Coke Studio India in July this year, and is showing a similar trajectory to that of 2021’s Coke Studio Pakistan number ‘Pasoori’.

The official synopsis of the song reads, “Khalasi tells the tale of the limitless sailor who has set out to explore through the shores of Gujarat. The song speaks of his tenuous, adventurous voyage, his delightful experiences and his enthusiasm with which he takes on life while he is sailing away.” The song has been composed by Scam 1992’s Achint Thakkar, and also highlights the talents of solo percussive acoustic guitarist Dhruv Visvanath.

The Norwegian dance group Quick Style, known for their viral ‘Kala Chashma’ video from last year, has once again impressed fans online with their fantastic performance to ‘Khalasi’. Sharing the video, they wrote in the caption, “Dancing to Khalasi by Coke Studio Bharat No better way of announcing the start of a new journey with Coca Cola India than with a song about a sailor’s adventurous journey, which reminds us of our own.”

He was also a part of AR Rahman’s  KM Music Conservatory (KMMC) in Chennai. Opening up about his journey, the singer had said in an interview with Behind Woods, “I am in the Sufi Qawali ensemble in KMMC so last year we went to Dubai for a show and Rahman sir was present so he heard my voice there and then called me to sing a few lines for Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. I got a call from his studio at 12 am midnight! He wasn’t even in Chennai, but he guided me over Skype from Mumbai.”
