Kadak Singh movie review: How bad can a Pankaj Tripathi film be?

The film is fashioned as a Roshomon-type puzzle, whose interlocked pieces keep coming to light as the characters start telling their side of the story. It all begins with a chit-fund fraudster who is under the scanner in Srivastava’s department. A colleague dies by suicide. Or is it murder? Soon after, Srivastava is found unconscious in his room, barely alive.

Most of the unravelling is done in Srivastava’s head: his memory may be affected, but there’s nothing wrong with his brain. His backstory is complicated. His motherless children had dubbed him Kadak because he was a hard man, difficult to please, and now, post the near-death experience, he’s turned into this jolly fellow, who looks alarmingly healthy even as a dedicated nurse (Parvathy Thiruvothu) keeps an eye on him day and night.

This may have seemed like an interesting premise, but the execution is anything but. The actors, especially Tripathi and Thiruvothu who can both be relied upon to give us joy, are comprehensively let down.
