With an impressive track record and a jaw-dropping lineup, Kunchacko Boban currently stands as one of the most promising actors in the Malayalam film industry. After his 2018: Everyone is a Hero, helmed by Jude Anthany Joseph, was chosen as India’s official entry for the 2024 Oscars, Chackochan (the name by which Kunchacko Boban is widely recognised and referred to by all Malayalees) is gearing up for his fifth release this year.

Directed by Tinu Pappachan, Chaaver also stars Antony Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, and Sajin Gopu in key roles alongside Chackochan. The film’s trailer, which the makers released a few days ago, offered glimpses of Chaaver’s world and promised that the flick would be a high-energy, tension-filled actioner that won’t hold back in portraying violence.

Referring to Chaaver as a film that is very close to his heart, Kunchacko Boban points out the stark contrast between his role as Sakhavu (comrade) Ashokan in this political thriller and his Rameshan in the romantic comedy Padmini (2023, Dir. Senna Hegde), his most recent release.

“While Rameshan embodies a relatable, everyday persona with his easygoing nature, Ashokan in Chaaver stands in stark contrast to that. This diversity is what fuels my enthusiasm and excitement for the roles and films I’m currently involved in,” he tells The Indian Express.

Chackochan also mentions that his friendship with directors like Senna Hegde and Tinu Pappachan provides him with the opportunity to explore new avenues and experiment with various roles, offering him additional creative freedom.

“So, Chaaver will be a truly distinctive film, unlike any I’ve undertaken thus far. It will showcase me in a completely novel light, in terms of characterisation, appearance and attitude,” he asserts.

Commending screenwriter Joy Mathew, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, Kunchacko Boban remarks, “He has done an outstanding job incorporating many realistic aspects into the movie. Although some of these themes may be sensitive, we cannot deny their presence in our society. At the same time, the film will also offer an exceptional cinematic experience to audiences. The combination of sound, special effects, stunt choreography, and photography, among other elements, contributes to the movie’s grandeur, making it a truly unique experience to watch in theatres. So, I’m eagerly looking forward to witnessing the excitement in theatres for Chaaver.”

Chackochan further mentions that he is currently in a ‘never let them know your next move’ phase. “I thoroughly enjoy taking on new challenges, exploring different roles, and keeping people guessing about what lies ahead in my career.”

Chaaver’s music has been handled by Justin Varghese, while Jinto George and Nishadh Yusuf are its cinematographer and editor, respectively. The movie is bankrolled jointly by Arun Narayan and Venu Kunnapilly. The film will hit screens on October 5, 2023.
