Dulquer Salmaan says dad Mammootty can’t comprehend his movie choices: ‘He says you can’t come to my house if…’
From his wife not accepting his stardom to his father wanting him to do more films, in a recent interview, Dulquer Salmaan reveals how his family keeps him grounded.

Dulquer Salmaan, widely known for his romantic roles in South cinema, won many hearts in the North after the release of his widely appreciated Tamil Film, OK Kanmani, in 2015. From his acclaimed Hindi film debut in Karwaan (2018) to his successful ventures in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema, Dulquer’s talent has earned him popularity across various industries. Despite his widespread success, the actor revealed in a recent interview that his wife, Amal Sufiya, doesn’t see him as a star, and even his father, Malayalam movie legend Mammootty, has some reservations about his movie choices.
In a candid conversation with ETimes, Dulquer disclosed that his wife remains grounded when it comes to his stardom. When asked how his wife deals with all the female adulation he gets, the actor replied, “I don’t think my wife has fully accepted that I am an actor or a star. She simply thinks, ‘He goes to work and comes back.'” DQ recalled that when someone asked for a picture with him, his wife was quite surprised. “She is like, ‘I know what you are at home. They are only seeing the groomed version of you. I am the one who lives with the real version’,” he said.
When asked about his father’s influence on his film choices, Dulquer shared that Mammootty often urges him to do more movies. The actor explained, “He himself does around five films a year, and I usually work on these long, eight-nine-month projects that he can’t quite comprehend. He tells me, ‘You can’t come to my house if you do only one film a year’.”
On the professional front, Dulquer recently featured in the music video of singers Jasleen Royal and Arijit Singh’s new track ‘Heeriye.’ His fans are eagerly waiting for his upcoming action entertainer, King of Kotha. Directed by debutant Abhilash Joshiy, the film is set for release in August 2023.
