(Photo: Dulquer Salmaan/Instagram) Dulquer Salmaan has been married to his wife Amaal Sufiya for over a decade but in a recent interview, the actor-producer opened up about his love story and shared that he knew about her since their school days as they both went to the same school. Dulquer said that Amaal was five years junior to her so he never thought about her when they were both in school. However, when he bumped into her years later, he thought about the possibility of marrying her.
“She was five years my junior, which is again creepy. When I was in 12th, she was in 7th, she was like a child,” he said. Years later, Dulquer said that he was at an age when his family was talking about getting him married but he was against the idea of an arranged marriage as he could never “accept or reject” anyone. But it was during those days that he kept bumping into Amaal all over Chennai. “For some weird reason, I kept seeing my wife Amaal in Chennai. For two weeks, I kept bumping into her,” he told Bollywood Bubble.
“Random places like at the movies, or at the salon, and I was like maybe this is a sign. So I reached out to her on Facebook or something,” he recalled. Dulquer said that they decided to meet for coffee but all of this happened with their parents knowing about it. “I (told them) look, there’s this girl from my school. I think that’s a possible alliance but I want to first meet her and see if there’s something there. I told her also tell your parents. We’ll officially meet for a coffee. There’s nothing there. We’ll just be school mates who met for a cup of coffee,” he said.
Dulquer also recalled the most romantic thing that he has ever done for anyone and said that after meeting for that first coffee date, they met the next day as well and he drove from Chennai to Pondicherry. He called it his first date with her and said, “My first date with my wife, I drove her from Chennai to Pondicherry in an hour and a half. We spoke for like four hours or something, I drove back.” He joked that it was “borderline creepy, like kidnapping.”
