Over a week after being arrested and subsequently released on bail following a complaint from his ex-wife, singer-composer Amritha Suressh, actor Bala — known for his work in Malayalam cinema — has remarried in a traditional Hindu ceremony. According to Mathrubhumi, Bala’s new wife, Kokila, is his relative from Chennai and the wedding took place at the Kaloor Pavakulam temple in Ernakulam on Wednesday. Only their close relatives and friends attended the ceremony.
Expressing hope that this marriage, which is his third one, would go well, Bala told the media house, “I am confident about this as she is a relative of mine. For the past year, I’ve been eating well, sleeping better, and taking my medications properly. My health has improved greatly.” He had previously undergone a liver transplant. Bala also noted that this marriage fulfilled one of his mother’s long-held wishes, though she was unable to attend due to health reasons. The actor further mentioned that Kokila had wished for this union since childhood.
While Bala’s marriage to Amritha ended in divorce in 2019, he later married Dr Elizabeth. But that relationship too ended in separation. Mathrubhumi also reported that his marriage with Elizabeth was not legally registered.
On October 14, Bala was arrested on charges including defamation via social media, insulting womanhood and cruelty towards children, news agency PTI reported. After his arrest and a medical examination, he was presented in court, where he was granted bail with two sureties of Rs 25,000 each. The court also prohibited him from posting videos of his child on social media and instructed him to fully cooperate with the investigation.
According to OnManorama, Amritha’s complaint alleged that Bala insulted her via social media and that his videos had caused emotional distress to their daughter. She also claimed that he had breached their divorce agreement, which forbade personal attacks, stating, “He is constantly disturbing me and my 12-year-old daughter, even giving paid online interviews about us.” Bala had previously claimed that Amritha was preventing him from seeing their daughter. However, their daughter later posted a video online, detailing the emotional distress she and her mother had endured due to Bala’s actions.
Bala, the brother of Tamil director Siva known for films like Veeram (2014), Vedalam (2015), Vivegam (2017), Viswasam (2019) and Annaatthe (2021), and currently directing the upcoming Suriya-starrer Kanguva (2024), was last seen in controversial director Omar’s Bad Boyz (2024).
