Bazooka box office collection day 2: Mammootty’s action thriller braves mixed reviews; but barely passes Rs 5 crore mark
Bazooka box office collection day 2: Braving the mixed reviews, the Mammootty film, directed by debutant filmmaker Deeno Dennis, managed to earn Rs 2 crore on Friday taking its tally to Rs 5.2 crore

Bazooka box office collection day 2: Despite the talent involved in Bazooka, Mammootty’s Vishu offering, the film had a mediocre start at the box office. Be it the cold promotion strategy or just the clash at the box office with the young brigade’s films like Maranamass and Alappuzha Gymkhana, Bazooka made Rs 3.2 crore nett in India on its first day. Braving the mixed reviews, the film, directed by debutant filmmaker Deeno Dennis, managed to earn Rs 2 crore on Day 2, taking its tally to Rs 5.2 crore.

There was a dip in the overall occupancy too, with the film getting just 39.77 % as opposed to the 48.53% on Day 2. However, the festive release window might work in favour of the film, which might just hold on to its numbers courtesy the stardom of Mammootty. The film’s simple premise, which primarily focusses on the elevation of the Megastar, could also work in its favour.
Nevertheless, Bazooka has delivered better numbers than Mammootty’s previous film, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, which was directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The investigative thriller made just Rs 6.4 crore over the four-day opening window of its release, and then dipped to a point of no return, making just Rs 9.1 crore in its domestic run. Bazooka fell slightly short of the two-day collections of the experimental Bramayugam, which gained massively from the overwhelming positive reviews, and became quite a successful venture considering the content and form of the film.
It is surprising that Bazooka, which is quite a similar film to his action drama, Turbo, has drastically under-performed in comparison to that film. Turbo opened to Rs 6.25 crore on Day 1 (Thursday), and ended the opening weekend with an impressive Rs 18.35 crore. It will be tough for Bazooka to match these numbers because of the rush at the box office, which includes Ajith Kumar’s Tamil film, Good Bad Ugly.

With back-to-back setbacks for Mammootty in the form of Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse and Bazooka, the upcoming films of the star has the potential to change the narrative. He will be next seen in Jithin K Jose’s Kalamkaval, and the much-awaited MMMN project, which is directed by Mahesh Narayanan, and marks the reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal after more than a decade.
