If there’s anything that Malayalam cinema audiences have been denied for the longest time, it’s a complete mass actioner featuring Fahadh Faasil in the lead role. While the Tamil industry produced two notable actioners — Vikram and Maamannan — and the Telugu industry made Pushpa: The Rise with Fahadh, the best we could achieve in comparison to these films was with Malik and Varathan.

Not only has director Jithu Madhavan heard our prayers, but he is also set to present Fahadh in the massiest manner possible. And when we say “massiest,” we mean it: Jithu Madhavan’s Aavesham features a mundu-clad, moustache-twirled and Ray-Ban-worn Fahadh with a flair for using weapons to finish off his rivals.

The teaser of Aavesham, unveiled by the makers on Wednesday, underscores the same, promising an exhilarating action-comedy extravaganza that “reintroduces Fahadh”, from the director who enriched our 2023 with the horror comedy Romancham.

The 103-second promo video opens with a carnival scene, distinctly highlighting that the narrative unfolds in a bygone era. Amidst the carnival atmosphere, people can be seen dancing to a track with cutouts of Fahadh’s character in the background.

Watch Aavesham teaser here:

“How did Ranga become such a big deal?” a kid asks Amban, one of Rangan’s associates (Sajin Gopu), prompting him to narrate the story of Ranga’s history of bloodlust. “During his school days, Ranga started working part-time at a relative’s juice shop. One day, a few goons arrived there to stir up trouble. They had weapons too. Seeing this, Ranga leapt onto them, hopping from one to another until he reached their leader. He then proceeded to repeatedly stab him until he died.”

“Ranga is one hell of a rowdy. His entry itself is quite the spectacle,” another character asserts, as we see Ranga wearing golden bracelets and brandishing a dagger.

As the narratives escalate, a child questions Amban about actually witnessing these events, to which he responds, “Well, I didn’t. But a person who claimed to have seen it narrated the incident with the same impact.”

This prompts us to reassess everything we witnessed so far. While everyone claims that he is a major rowdy, the teaser only portrays him as eccentric and refrains from depicting him committing any violence, raising doubts about whether he is merely an exaggerated figure. Nevertheless, the promo video underscores Ranga’s substantial influence in his locality in Karnataka and his rivals’ plots to dethrone him.

Bankrolled jointly by Nazriya Nazim and Anwar Rasheed, the film, scripted by director Jithu himself, boasts Sameer Thahir as the cinematographer, Sushin Shyam as the music composer and Vivek Harshan as the editor.

Aavesham will hit the screens on April 11, coinciding with the Vishu festival, alongside Blessy’s Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) and Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Pranav Mohanlal-starrer Varshangalkku Shesham.
