The trailer for Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited film The Odyssey has finally been released, offering the first glimpse into the filmmaker’s ambitious retelling of the legendary Greek epic. Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the film traces the arduous journey of the Greek king as he attempts to return home after the epic Trojan War and reunite with his wife, Penelope. The cast also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway—who essays the role of Penelope—along with Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and several other notable names.

Christopher Nolan, who has written and directed the film, has also produced it alongside his wife Emma Thomas under their production banner, Syncopy. The trailer was unveiled on Monday.

The video opens with Matt Damon’s Odysseus, whose voice echoes in the background: “After years of war, no one could stand between my men and home. Not even me.” Notably, this is one of the two dialogues in the nearly 120-second trailer.

True to Nolan’s signature storytelling, the trailer relies heavily on striking visuals rather than words. It offers glimpses of the hardships endured during and after the war, the emotional toll on its survivors, and fleeting moments of connection—particularly between Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway, who are seen sharing quiet, meaningful glances.

Christopher Nolan began writing the period drama in March 2024 and officially announced the project in December of the same year. With a reported budget of USD 250 million, The Odyssey is one of the most expensive films of Nolan’s career. It also marks a historic first for the director, as the film has been shot entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras.
