An action sequence from SS Rajamouli's RRR made an appearance at the 96th Academy Awards in a montage celebrating the contribution of the stunt community towards international cinema. A video clip of last year's best original song winner 'Naatu Naatu' from RRR was also played out at the event. WATCH HERE.

John Cena's recreation of a streaker incident during the 1974 Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards was perhaps the highlight of the event. The cameo had host Jimmy Kimmel in a supporting role.

It all began with Kimmel handing over an envelope with the name of the winner to Best Costume Design category to Cena who was hiding in the wings. The actor walked on to the Oscars stage with his modesty hidden behind the envelope and holding a microphone. The lights were dimmed as the nominees of the award were announced, and Cena was dressed in a toga when they came back up. He then opened the envelope and finally announced the winner's name. The wrester-turned-actor presented the Best Costume Design award for Poor Things to Holly Waddington.

As many wondered if he really was naked on stage, backstage photos revealed that he was wearing a modesty pouch, used in filming intimate scenes for screen.

A Twins reunion took place at Oscars as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito paired up to present Best Visual Effects to Godzilla Minus One and Best Film Editing to Oppenheimer.

As DeVito said, “Arnold and I are presenting tonight together for a very obvious reason,” Arnold replied, “We’ve both tried to kill Batman!” While DeVito played the Penguin in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns where Michael Keaton played the Caped Crusader, Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze in George Clooney-fronted Batman and Robin.

Schwarzenegger said at the 96th Academy Awards that his villain was defeated because Batman “used my one weakness (love for his wife) against me”. DeVito then pointed at Michael Keaton and recalled he threw his character out of the window. “Oh. He threw me out a window! There he is. He’s right here. He’s right there. Look!” As Keaton deadpanned, Schwarzenegger quipped, "You have a lot of nerve to show your face around here.”. DeVito said, “We’ll see you after the Governor’s Ball, pal!”

Oppenheimer vs Barbie has occupied a lot of media space, as well as Oscars proimetime too. As Oppenheimer actor Emily Blunt and Barbie's 'Ken' Ryan Gosling came together to celebrate the contributions of stunt performers in Hollywood, the discussion sidetracked to, well, the clash. “I’m glad we can put this whole rivalry behind us,” Blunt said, adding, “Even though, the way this awards season has turned out, it wasn’t actually much of a rivalry after all.” Oppenheimer went home with seven awards while Barbie snagged only one. So, not really the rivalry we were all hoping for. 

Eva Mendes dropped a message for husband Ryan Gosling on Twitter hours after he performed at the Oscars 2024. "You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed," she wrote with a kiss emoji. Gosling performed “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie. He was joined by Mark Ronson on guitar as well as his fellow Kens -- Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, America Ferrera and Emma Stone were also seen singing along.

Not all of host Jimmy Kimmel's jokes landed at the 96th Academy Awards. The one in strictly 'maybe' category is his dig at nudity in Poor Things, which was aimed at Emma Stone. Emma, who landed the Best Actress award at the ceremony, responded with an eye-roll. Sharing the clip on X, a user wrote, “Emma Stone’s reaction to Jimmy Kimmel’s joke about poor things.. oh YEAH.” While most backed Emma, a few were also in Jimmy's corner. Wrote one, “I mean he wasn’t wrong lol, half the movie was just nudity. the whole point of monologues is about having fun and teasing people anyway.” Another user wrote, “Honestly Jimmy Kimmel has been awful he already pissed me off with the “movies are too long” nonsense and the “animations for kids” crap.” Read it here.

Messi, the 7-year-old dog featured in Anatomy of a Fall, won hearts at the Oscars 2024. He attended the event wearing a bow tie and was given his own seat at the venue. Messi played Snoop, Milo Machado-Garner’s service dog in the Oscar-winning film. However, the border collie also got involved in Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon fued as he was seen peeing on the latter’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The brief post-Oscar moment during the credit rolls is the latest edition of a two-decade feud between the actor and comedian. It started after Kimmel joked that his show couldn't make room for Damon in 2005. Reacting to the video, a user commented, “Looks like Messi’s dribbling skills aren’t just limited to the soccer field! Matt Damon might want to watch his step next time he’s on the Walk of Fame. At the 96th Academy Awards ceremony held at the Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on Monday, American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O'Connell secured their second Best Original Song Oscar for the track "What Was I Made For?" from Greta Gerwig's Barbie. This accomplishment has made Eilish, 22, the youngest person ever to win two Oscars.

This achievement surpasses the longstanding record set by Luise Rainer, who won her second Best Actress Oscar at the age of 28 in 1938. Twenty-six-year-old O'Connell now ranks as the second youngest person to achieve two Oscar wins.

Eilish and O'Connell previously won the Best Original Song Oscar in 2022 for the track "No Time to Die" from the James Bond film of the same name.

The Ukrainian film 20 Days in Mariupol, directed by Mstyslav Chernov, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony held at the Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on Monday.

During his acceptance speech, Chernov expressed his sentiments, stating that he would rather not have received the Oscar if it meant preventing the ongoing war in his country.

"This is the first Oscar in Ukrainian history and I'm honoured. But probably I will be the first director on this stage who will say I wish I never made this film. I wish to be able to exchange this to Russia never attacking Ukraine, never occupying our cities... I wish to give all the recognition to Russia to not kill tens of thousands of my fellow Ukrainians. I wish for them (Russia) to release all the hostages, all the soldiers who are protecting their land, all the civilians who are now in jails. But I cannot change history... cannot change the past."

"But we, all together, can make sure that the history records this straight and the truth prevails and the people of Mariupol and those who given their lives are not forgotten.  Cinema forms memories and memories form history," he added.

According to Reuters, Chernov, a video journalist for The Associated Press, shot the film during the first days of Russia's 2022 invasion in Ukraine when trapped in Mariupol with a team of journalists.

Hayao Miyazaki, veteran Japanese animator, filmmaker, manga artist and co-founder of Studio Ghibli, bagged his second Oscar award in his career for the animated fantasy film The Boy and the Heron at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony at the Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on Monday. It won the award in the Best Animated Feature category.

Miyazaki, 83, won his inaugural Oscar in 2003 when he received the Best Animated Feature award for his film Spirited Away. Although he earned nominations in the same category in 2006 for Howl's Moving Castle and in 2014 for The Wind Rises, Miyazaki lost on those occasions to Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Frozen, respectively.

His contributions have earned him global recognition as a skilled storyteller and pioneer in Japanese animated feature films, solidifying his place as one of the most accomplished filmmakers in animation history.

Comcast Corp's Universal Pictures dominated Sunday's Academy Awards, propelled by the historical drama Oppenheimer, which won seven Oscars, including best picture, Reuters reported The film about the father of the atomic bomb claimed wins in several major categories, including the best director Oscar for Christopher Nolan, lead actor for Cillian Murphy and supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.

The Holdovers, a film from Universal's Focus Features about a strict teacher in a New England boarding school who is forced to supervise students unable to return home for Christmas, won for best supporting actress, Da'Vine Joy Randolph.

Disney's Searchlight division scored five Oscars. Four of them went to Poor Things, the reimagining of the Frankenstein story, which earned a best actress honor for Emma Stone. Searchlight also received an Oscar for documentary short film, The Last Repair Shop.

Netflix received a single award, for director Wes Anderson's 39-minute live action short, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Apple was shut out of Sunday's winners. It released best picture nominee Killers of the Flower Moon, which depicts the murders of members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s.

Despite Jimmy Kimmel's overall lack of success in eliciting laughter from the audience during the 96th Academy Awards ceremony at the Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on Monday, his comedic jab aimed at former US president Donald Trump managed to entertain the crowd.

During the ceremony, Trump took to Truth Social, an alt-tech social media platform created by Trump Media & Technology Group, to claim that Kimmel was the "worst host" the Oscars had ever witnessed.

In response, the host read aloud the "review" of his performance at the Oscars venue. Kimmel, who has long feuded with Trump, said, "Thank you, President Trump. Isn't it past your jail time?"

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony concluded with few surprises on Monday morning (India time), with Christopher Nolan’s epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer winning a leading seven Oscars. The dark comedy Poor Things, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, won four awards, while Barbie, Maestro and Killers of the Flower Moon failed to translate any of their combined 25 nominations into wins.

The 96th Oscars marked many firsts – Nolan won his first directing Oscar, while his Oppenheimer stars, Robert Downey Jr and Cillian Murphy, also picked up their debut Academy Awards after long and acclaimed careers. The biggest surprise of the event was Emma Stone winning the Best Actress award over the hotly tipped Lily Gladstone. The Academy is in the midst of a revamp in light of declining ratings and audience interest in the iconic awards, and the presence of major stars and big blockbusters was expected to turn things around this year. Following his first-ever Oscar win for the epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer at the 96th Academy Awards in Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Monday, Christopher Nolan told AP, "Winning this recognition from my peers is the icing on the cake. “It’s very important to me. It’s a wonderful finish to what’s been an incredible year."

Oppenheimer bagged a total of seven awards during the ceremony. It also earned actors Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

Emma Stone achieved her second Oscar victory by clinching the Best Actress award at the 96th Academy Awards held at Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Monday for her performance as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things. She previously won the Best Actress Award for "La La Land" in 2017.

During her emotional acceptance speech, Emma humorously mentioned that her mint green strapless gown had torn in the back. "My dress is broken. I think it happened during 'I'm Just Ken'. I'm pretty sure," she joked, referring to Ryan Gosling's performance at the ceremony of the Oscar-nominated song from Barbie.

After bagging the Best Actor award for his performance in Christopher Nolan's epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer at the 96th Academy Awards in Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Monday, Cillian Murphy gave a moving speech and dedicated his award to all peacemakers across the world. 

Beginning his acceptance speech by mentioning that he's a "little overwhelmed," Murphy thanked the Academy, director Nolan and producer Emma Thomas. "It’s been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey you’ve taken me on over the last 20 years. I owe you more than I can say."

"We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb. For better or worse, we’re all living in Robert Oppenheimer’s world. I’d like to dedicate this to the peacemakers," he added.

In the most anticipated Best Picture category, Christopher Nolan's epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer emerged victorious, earning its seventh win. The award was presented by the veteran veteran actor Al Pacino.

Emma Stone has bagged the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things. This is Emma's second win in the category. She previously won the Best Actress Award for La La Land in 2017.

In his first Academy Award win, Christopher Nolan was named the Best Director for his epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer. 

In the highly anticipated Best Actor category, Cillian Murphy of Oppenheimer clinched the trophy, marking the fifth victory for the Christopher Nolan film. This is his first Oscar win.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), during the 96th Oscars ceremony on Monday, paid tribute to Indian art director and production designer Nitin Chandrakant Desai who passed away on August 2, 2023. In yet another major victory for Oppenheimer, marking its fourth win of the night, Ludwig Göransson bagged the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

At the 96th Academy Award ceremony on Monday, Barbie actor Ryan Gosling delivered a performance of his iconic song "I am Just Ken", captivating the audiences.

In its second triumph, The Zone of Interest secured the Best Sound award. The film's sound engineers Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn received the award presented by actor-comedian John Mulaney.

Wes Anderson's The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, starring Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel and Ben Kingsley, bagged the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.

Oppenheimer's Hoyte van Hoytema won the Oscar for Best Cinematography, marking the epic biographical thriller's third victory of the evening. Actor Zendaya presented the award.

In a significant setback for India, the Canadian documentary To Kill a Tiger, directed by India-born Canadian filmmaker Nisha Pahuja, lost in the Documentary Feature Film category. Mstyslav Chernov's 20 Days in Mariupol recorded victory here.

In another significant victory for Christopher Nolan's epic biographical thriller Oppenheimer, Jennifer Lame claimed the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. The award was presented by actors Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In the Best Visual Effects category, the Japanese epic kaiju film Godzilla Minus One emerged victorious. Its VFX team, Jay Cooper, Ian Comley, Andrew Roberts and Neil Corbould accepted the award, while actors Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger presented it.

Jonathan Glazer's historical drama The Zone of Interest bagged the award for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on Monday.

Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things scored a hat-trick on Monday, securing its third Oscar of the night as Holly Waddington received the award for Best Costume Design. The film had earlier won accolades for Best Production Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The award was presented by a "naked" John Cena.

Writer-director Cord Jefferson secured the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, marking a significant victory for the comedy-drama American Fiction. The film stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Ortiz and Erika Alexander. Oscar-winning actors Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer presented the award.

Justine Triet and Arthur Harari bagged the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for their legal drama Anatomy of a Fall at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony. The film is helmed by Triet herself and stars Sandra Hüller, Swann Arlaud as Vincent Renzi and Milo Machado-Graner. Oscar-winning actors Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer presented the award.

Japanese animated fantasy film The Boy and the Heron, helmed by Hayao Miyazaki, bagged the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony on Monday. Actors Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, who presented the award, accepted the trophy on behalf of the film's team.

"War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko", helmed by Dave Mullins, bagged the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Actors Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy presented the award.

In the first win of the day, Da'Vine Joy Randolph of The Holdovers secured the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony, kicking off Alexander Payne's movie's success streak. Randolph portrayed Mary Lamb in the film.

Other nominees in the category were Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, America Ferrera for Barbie and Jodie Foster for Nyad.

The Oscars 2024 kicked off with host Jimmy Kimmel lightening the mood with a joke. "Thanks for that partial standing ovation," Kimmel said. Kimmel also commended Greta Gerwig's Barbie, noting the widespread belief that she deserved a Best Director nomination. As applause erupted, Kimmel reminded everyone of their part in Gerwig's omission. He lightheartedly poked fun at Christopher Nolan's film Oppenheimer and its team as well.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars)  announced the first slate of presenters for its 96th edition, on Tuesday morning. “Meet your first slate of presenters for 96th Oscars,” read the Instagram post accompanying the list. The upcoming Oscars ceremony boasts a star-studded lineup of presenters. Last year’s big acting winners are all coming back to present at the show (a tradition), including Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis. The academy also announced that Scarface’ co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino are set to hand out awards as well (no word on whether it’s together or not). 

Other celebrities set to grace the Dolby stage include Zendaya, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Lange, Nicolas Cage, Mahershala Ali, Sam Rockwell and Luptia Nyong’o. More names will be revealed as show day gets closer. The producers will continue to announce talent joining the show in the coming weeks.
