In 2023, the announcements were made by Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams. 2023 was a rather strong year for Indian cinema at the Oscars as India scored three nominations at the 95th Academy Awards. RRR’s Naatu Naatu managed to score Best Original Song nomination. All That Breathes scored a nomination in the Best Documentary Feature Film category and short film The Elephant Whisperers managed to score a nomination in the Best Documentary Short Film category. Naatu Naatu and The Elephant Whisperers went on to win the Oscars in 2023.

Which films will be nominated at the Oscar Nominations 2024?

Unlike last year, there are no major Indian films in contention at the Academy Awards this year. Hollywood films like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Alexander Payne’s The Holdover’s, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, Celine Song’s Past Lives, Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest are expected to score nominations across many categories.

Cillian Murphy, Paul Giamatti, Bradley Cooper, Robert Downey Jr, Jeffrey Wright, Margot Robbie, Lily Gladstone, Emily Blunt, Carey Mulligan, Emma Stone are expected to get nominated in the acting categories. This year has so far belonged to Barbie and Oppenheimer, with the latter clearly dominating during the award season.

Malayalam film 2018 was India’s official entry for the 2024 Oscars. However, Jude Anthany Joseph’s film did not make it to the shortlist. “The Oscar shortlist has been unveiled, and regrettably, our film 2018- Everyone Is A Hero did not secure a spot among the final 15 films out of the 88 international language films from across the globe. I sincerely apologize to all my well-wishers and supporters for disappointing you all. Nevertheless, the opportunity to represent India in this competition has been a dream-like journey that I will cherish for a lifetime,” the filmmaker shared on social media.

When are Oscars 2024?

The 96th Academy Awards, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time, will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. In India, the ceremony will be broadcast during the early hours of March 11 because of the time difference.
