Two highly anticipated films, Oppenheimer directed by Christopher Nolan and Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig, have been running in theatres for a week now. After a strong performance in its first week, Oppenheimer, featuring Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, continued to pull audiences to the theatres.  It earned Rs 7.25 crore in India on the ninth day of its release, according to trade portal Sacnilk. With this, the film’s total earnings in India stands at Rs 84.80 crore. Globally, the film has earned $253.38 million. On the ninth day of its release in India, Greta’s film ‘Barbie’ earned Rs 3.15 crore.

Oppenheimer had an impressive opening weekend, earning double-digit numbers in its first three days. The film had a great opening, as it earned Rs 14.50 crore on July 21. It continued its strong performance with Rs 17 crore on the first Saturday and Rs 17.25 crore on the first Sunday. It ended its first week in the theatres with a total collection of Rs 73.27 crore. Now, in its second week too, the film is doing decently well. However, after the release of Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, its footfalls were affected. Starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the film opened with Rs 11.5 crore.

The Christopher Nolan directorial revolves around the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his team of scientists working on the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb. The film also stars Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, and Florence Pugh in significant roles.

The Indian Express critic Shalini Langer gave the film 4.5 stars. A part of the review read, “Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer isn’t just about the chain reaction that is set off when a neutron hits the nucleus of an atom. It’s more about the chain reaction every time great power falls into great hands.”
