According to Jones’ LinkedIn profile, she had worked with both Clarkson and Brandon. She worked as the former American Idol winner’s assistant from 2016 to 2018. and after quitting, joined Brandon’s talent company as an executive management assistant in 2018, while still handling Clarkson’s schedule. In June 2020, the same month Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce, Jones reportedly moved to Montana to work at Brandon’s ranch, V Bar B Cattle Co.

Clarkson and Blackstock met while working together, fell in love, and got married, but their marriage lasted from 2013 to 2020. The divorce was finalised in 2022 after a messy custody battle. The ex-couple shared two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9, and as part of their divorce verdict, Clarkson got the Montana ranch as part of the settlement, though she largely preferred to live in New York for her show and career commitments. Meanwhile, Blackstock stayed in Montana, where he and Jones later launched the rodeo in 2024.

Jones had reportedly been married before to drummer Greg Goose LaPoint. A social media post from September 2021 showed them celebrating their first wedding anniversary, but they seem to have split since. LaPoint is now dating a woman named Arika Vanessa. After Brandon’s death, Jones’ father, Larry, paid tribute to him on Facebook, calling him his daughter’s soulmate and saying he still considered him a son. “Yesterday we lost a good man Brandon Blackstock, my daughter’s soulmate, and I considered him my son,” he wrote. “My sincere condolences to Brittney Jones and family. We’re sure going to miss your funny humor. R.I.P hoss!”

Despite their separation, Kelly Clarkson continued to support Brandon, wanting to be there for her kids’ father in his hard times. She often stepped away from her hosting duties and even canceled her recent LA residency. Clarkson is set to resume her work in September with the new season of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she’ll return as a guest. Sources told People she was “devastated” for their children and stayed protective of him once she learned he was sick.
