International Emmy Awards 2024: Vir Das trolls Will Smith, takes a dig at OTT giants and US government

Vir Das shared a video on his Instagram stories in which he said, “All the major platforms are here and humbly. I feel that next year one of you should really broadcast this show. What do you think?” While this statement was met with some applause, it was Vir’s punchline that left the crowd giving a loud cheer. He continued, “Who does Will Smith have to slap tonight for us to get some eyeballs, guys?”

Vir also took a funny dig at the US government as he said, “I’m kidding. We are foreigners. You can’t slap foreigners with anything but sanctions…sorry tariffs.”

This wasn’t Vir Das’ first time at the International Emmys. Vir was at the International Emmys in 2021 as he was nominated for his special Vir Das: For India, and in 2023, the actor-comedian won an award for his Netflix special Landing.

The International Emmy Awards 2024 was held in New York City on Monday night (Tuesday morning in India).

On the acting front, Vir Das was last seen in Call Me Bae, in which he played a negative role. The show starred Ananya Panday in the lead role. Currently, Vir is busy with his International Mind Fool Tour.
