In what is clearly the musical highlight of Oscars 2025, BLACKPINK’s Lisa was among the four-part tribute to James Bond at the 97th Academy Awards on Sunday evening (Monday morning, India time). Lisa was clearly the toast of the ceremony, earlier slaying at the red carpet in a Mark Gong ensemble. Her fans loved the performance, with many applauding her for representing K-pop on the Oscars stage. Lisa, 27, made history as the first K-pop artiste to perform at the Academy Awards.

Lisa walked the Oscars red carpet in a floor-length blazer and collared button-up shirt, with a pair of trousers underneath. Lisa eschewed glam as she chose to showcase “a different side to her” in the statement suit. It was also a nod to her James Bond tribute performance. Lisa’s glambot was also a hit at the event, with fans praising her expressions.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa pays tribute to James Bond

Introducing the Oscar tribute to James Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli was Oscar winner Halle Berry, who said: “I had the great pleasure of working with Barbara and Michael on Die Another Day and let me tell you, they don’t just produce Bond movies, they were the heart and soul of this franchise for decades. Every generation does have their Bond. The world revolves, it evolves, and so does he. But that signature mix of danger, style and intrigue, well, now that’s timeless. Tonight, we pay tribute to Barbara and Michael and to our favourite spy.”

The tribute to James Bond opened with The Substance actor Margaret Qualley dancing to the Bond theme, followed by Lisa performing to “Live and Let Die,” Doja Cat with “Diamonds Are Forever” and RAYE with “Skyfall.”

Fans called her performance ‘inspiring’. “The way she commanded the stage, her stage presence!! I always believe in you, Lisa. In whatever kind of stage, you always have control & make it a great performance,” one fan wrote, while another said, “She defines aura”. One person said, “lisa is really meant for hollywood western stages tho. like her performance is on fire!”

Oscars’ James Bond tribute

The tribute comes on the heels of a shakeup that stirred the film industry: The longtime custodians of the James Bond movies handed over creative control to Amazon MGM in late February. Amazon bought MGM Studios in 2022 for $6.1 billion, a purchase that was significantly motivated by the acquisition of one of the movies’ most beloved and long-running franchises.

Lisa’s performance comes on the back of some landmark moments for the singer. In February, she debuted her first studio album, Alter Ego, with collaborations featuring Doja Cat and RAYE, Rosalía, Megan Thee Stallion and Tayla. She also appeared in the latest season of The White Lotus last month and made her Coachella debut as a solo performer last year.

This year’s ceremony is hosted by Conan O’Brien at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre. Additional performers included Wicked duo Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, as well as Queen Latifah.
