It was initially reported that Millie Bobby Brown had accused David Harbour of bullying and harassment on the sets of Stranger Things.

The final season of Stranger Things is nearly upon us, and strange things have already started happening. Just a few days earlier, fans of the show were shocked to hear that Millie Bobby Brown had allegedly accused co-star David Harbour of bullying and harassment ahead of filming the final season. Just as the dust was settling, Harbour and Brown were spotted together at the premiere of the final season. The two were laughing, hugging and posing together for pictures on the red carpet.

The two actors were behaving as if the aforementioned complaint never happened, and Brown never gave that awkward MTV interview where she swapped Harbour for Matthew Modine when choosing someone to officiate her wedding. While talking to Josh Horowitz, she was asked whether Harbour was going to officiate the wedding.  At first she seemed hesitant, and then she said, “Yes. I don’t know how I feel…sure. Matthew Modine, I think.” Modine plays the other, more problematic father figure of Brown in the series.

Millie Bobby Brown’s accusations against David Harbour

While it was made clear that no sexual impropriety was involved, Daily Mail claimed that Brown did not like the way Harbour was behaving with her. ‘Pages after pages’ of complaints were also filed before the filming of the final season began, so when they surfaced online, many fans thought that Harbour’s character wouldn’t be that involved in the story. Sources said a long and extensive internal investigation took place at Netflix in order to get to the bottom of these claims. According to the same reports, Brown also had a personal representative present on the set throughout the filming of the final season.

Right during the filming, Harbour was going through a divorce with his wife, Lily Allen. The singer who had reportedly supported her husband during the aforementioned investigation left no stone unturned when accusing him of infidelity in her latest album, West End Girl. Songs like Madeline, Tennis and P***y Palace are straight shots at Harbour, who was accused of having an affair with a costume designer while filming We Have A Ghost (2021).

David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown’s comments about each other

The two stars were obviously asked about each other during the red carpet appearance. David stated that he was extremely proud of Millie and the rest of the kids and that he hopes to work with them on other projects. “I mean, you know, I adore her. I have been proud to watch all of them grow up and become such great artists. I doubt this will be the last time we will see each other or work together. It’s great that there could be fresh opportunities to do that. But this particular family and this particular project have been so special, and we have known each other so deeply. They grew up in front of me, and I have seen them go through so much.”

Millie pointed out that she shares a special bond with David due to the relationship their characters share. She said, “It’s been so special to have him along the journey for me. Wynona Ryder and the rest of the cast. I obviously have a very special bond with David, because we have a father-daughter relationship (in the show), and we do every scene together. You really get to see that in season 5, so I am really honoured to have played Eleven and met such amazing people on the way.”

Stranger Things creators on accusations against Harbour

The creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer were also present for the premiere and they were asked for a comment on the accusations levelled against Harbour. Ross answered the question and told THR that, “Obviously, you understand I can’t get into personal onset matters, but I will say we’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them. So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”

Even if it’s for some publicity or to smooth things over in front of the media, Brown and Harbour seemed to behave very normally towards each other. In the series, Harbour plays the character of Jim Hopper, who discovers Eleven (Brown) and takes her in. Even though Hopper protects her and gives her shelter, Eleven is often seen disagreeing with his methods. The two are mostly cross at each other, but they both have mutual love and respect for the other person.

The Harbour and Brown controversy was one of the first cracks to have ever surfaced between the main cast. Ever since the first season, all of the cast members have been extremely supportive of each other in front of the media and have often appeared for interviews and events together.
