‘Urumi’ finds takers at Hong Kong Film Festival market
'Urumi',a directorial venture by Santosh Sivan is finding takers at the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum.
‘Urumi’,the latest directorial venture of acclaimed cinematographer Santosh Sivan is finding many takers at the ongoing Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF).
The period drama starring Southern star Prithviraj,Vidya Balan,Genelia D’Souza and Prabhu Deva,is among the 28 projects selected from around the world for the event which connects Asian filmmakers to international financiers and distributors.
“The forum is a part of the Hong Kong International Film Festival and it is a great platform for the film to reach out to the international film fraternity. The film’s English version titled ‘Vasco De Gama’ was selected to be a part of the forum and has got a great response,” said Sivan.
The film’s English version is different from it’s Malayalam and Hindi counterparts, with additional characters, though the story and the ending remains the same, said Sivan.
Set in 15th century Kerala, the story of a failed local rebellion against the Portugese invader Vasco De Gama, has created a buzz at the forum. “The acceptance at HAF means the subject is universal and has inherent potential for international finance and release,” said Sivan.
The 2011 edition of HAF includes a total of 28 projects selected from 12 countries,China,Hong Kong,Finland,India,Israel,Japan,Malaysia, the Philippines,South Korea,Taiwan,Thailand and Vietnam.
