Raj Kapoor street in the heart of Canada

Legendary filmmaker now has a street named after him in the city of Brampton.

Legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor now has a street named after him in the city of Brampton,about 45 km away from Toronto.

Brampton mayor Susan Fennell said the new street in downtown Brampton when constructed will be called ‘Raj Kapoor ‘Crescent’.

International Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) joined hands to commemorate the filmmaker,nicknamed showman for his influential role in Indian cinema.

The entire Raj Kapoor clan including his wife Krishna,sons Randhir,Rishi,his wife Neetu and Rajiv,daughters Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain along with her husband Manoj Jain attended the naming function at the Rose theatre on Friday.

But actors Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor,the new generation of the Kapoor family,were conspicuous by their absence.

When asked why Kareena and Ranbir were not present at the function,Randhir said they both were busy shooting for their respective movies.

A replica of the street sign was handed over to the family. Krishna Raj Kapoor presented a biography of filmmaker written by her elder daughter Ritu Nanda to the Mayor.

Mayor Susan Fennell said the book would enable fans of Indian cinema in Brampton to know more about the cinematic genius.

Randhir said “Not just his family but the whole of India was touched by this warm gesture. We will always cherish this moment and feel proud,”.
