Indian Pepsi-plugging film wins award

A Mumbai-based filmmaker has outsmarted 117 contestants from across the globe.

A Mumbai-based filmmaker has outsmarted 117 contestants from across the globe to win the first prize for his short film created for multinational company – PepsiCo.

Baroda-born Rahil Patel,who is assisting Hindi film veteran Vishal Bharadwaj for his next project,was declared as the winner of the contest organised by UK-based MO Films,a user generated content generating firm for various multinational brands.

“The competition was thrown open for the contestants from November,last year to February,this year. We received tremendous response from the filmmakers from countries like New Zealand,UK,India and others,” MO Film’s Chief Executive Officer Andy Baker said here.

Rahil had shot a one-minute documentary at Baroda,on the theme ‘I can do anything to get my Pepsi’.

“It’s a story about a hipster,travelling on a scooter on rugged region of Gujarat and his trick to get a Pepsi,” the filmmaker said adding the contest was a good opportunity for budding filmmakers to get noticed.

Baker said that they will be holding Goa film festival from the content generated through the competition.

“We had 117 participants vying for the award,” he said adding that by involving new talents,the MO Films intends to five fresh look at brands.

“It is a way to look at brands with a fresh look. It’s a way to have a look from the target market,” the CEO said.

Rahil’s film will be competing with films produced for six other brands – Nataraj Pencils,Hindustan Lever Limited,Kotak Mahindra,Surf Excel and Satpuda Foundation.
