SOME of the most extraordinary work being done in Indian cinema is by filmmakers from Maharashtra. Of these, Avinash Arun’s debut feature, Killa, stands out not just for the sheer visual beauty it presents, but also for a story that subtly, but unerringly shows the joy and pain of growing up. This National Award-winning film is, therefore, an apt choice for screening at the Indian Express Film Club in Mumbai. The screening, which will take place at the Nehru Centre Planetarium in Worli on Saturday, will be followed by a discussion led by The Indian Express film critic, Shubhra Gupta.
The unique format of the Indian Express Film Club, which screens one film every month, enhances the overall experience of film viewing and gives audiences a chance to share their experience of the film in a candid manner. The films are chosen and curated by Gupta, who says, “The films that are chosen for screening are well-regarded works that provoke and challenge the viewers, and Killa has been chosen because it stands out as one of the few films that is about children, but which resonates with viewers across the age spectrum.”
Killa will be screened at the Nehru Centre Planetarium, Basement Preview Theatre, Worli, at 6pm today. To book
