Dressed neat and talking sweet,Lady Gaga gags Delhi
We expected chicken tikka on her bustier and idlis on her frills. Or her turning up as a snake charmer. What we got instead was a soft, delicate Namaste. Was this really Lady Gaga? Dressed almost demurely (by Gaga standards) in a multi-hued Naeem Khan off-shoulder dress and minimal make-up,Lady Gaga came to Delhis Taj Mansingh on Friday afternoon in flesh and blood but without flesh or blood on her dress. The only whacky concession to her fashion reputation was a hairdo inspired by the colours of the Indian flag. The sites in India are beautiful, but the most beautiful sight are the people here, she said. Very touristy; the predictable celebrity byte.
Thats why like any other girl visiting Delhi for the first time, she tweeted,I am finally here what a dream come true. Performing at Formula 1 in India….
In the city to perform at the after-party of Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday,at Jaypee Greens Golf and Spa Resort,Greater Noida,Gaga talked about her love for all things Indian and her new album Born This Way. The latter is a concept borne out of a familiarly Indian notion: reincarnation, and is inspired from her little monsters (thats what she calls her fans) during a show in Manchester last year. During the performance,I looked at the audience and it struck me that the money they all spend on tickets is used to create my costumes and concepts of my shows, she said. She also explained why: My parents were the first in their families to get educated. They keep me grounded.
Inevitably, she came around to explaining her controversial wardrobe. Its a part of my creativity. Performing arts are my whole life, she said adding,My relationship with music is very experimental and I try very hard to get away with it. In America, its hard for people to believe that a young, blonde woman like me plays all the instruments herself. For me,music is all about discovering the new.
Her October 30 performance, however, will be a surprise. Eccentric and astonishingly frank, she quoted Andy Warhol, calling herself a schizophrenic in the same breath. I can be one woman and 100 women at the same time, she announced. Counting John Lennon,Bruce Springsteen and AC/DC in her cover wishlist,Gaga promised a grand performance, which has never been done before. Ive been working with the Haus of Gaga (her creative team) for some time now and I want to surprise you. There will be some Indian elements and I have modernised it a little, she promises.
