Double impact

Hindi cinema’s most expensive film and being immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds,it’s a super Diwali for Kareena Kapoor this year.

Two things have brought the pink to Kareena Kapoor’s already rosy cheeks. The release of RA.One on October 26,and the unveiling of her statue at Madam Tussauds in Blackpool,a day later. Looking extremely striking in a green kurta and black tights, the actress cannot contain herself as she exclaims. “The most exciting thing about being in RA.One is that Hindi cinema’s biggest and most expensive film will be part of my repertoire. I think it is going to break many records. Like I believe Mumbai’s night club Trilogy, which never plays Hindi music, has made Chammak chhallo an exception, and they play it almost every night on public demand. The song is massy, but Akon’s voice has given it a global feel. I know the film too is going to break records at the box-office,” smiles the lovely actress, eager to participate in the film’s premieres in Dubai and London on October 24 and 25 respectively, before heading for Blackpool to unveil her waxwork at Tussauds.

While other Bollywood celebrities have their wax replicas too at the London museum,Kapoor’s will be the first at the new museum in Blackpool. This will be followed by a six-city tour of all the Bollywood actors’ wax statues to London,Hong Kong,Thailand,Dubai and Berlin. The industry’s golden girl will be attired in a traditional Manish Malhotra sari with ethnic work (not the nets and chiffons, she specifies) at the inauguration. “When the authorities from the museum came to meet me,they wanted me to be dressed in very traditional Indian attire. I cannot tell you how the statue is dressed as it will be revealed online on the morning of October 27, but I was quite intrigued by how the artistes took my details right down to the last strand of hair before they started making it,” says the actress, who will be accompanied by her mother Babita and close friend Reena as Saif Ali Khan will be shooting in Rajasthan for Agent Vinod, her sister Karisma will be busy with Dangerous Ishq and dad (Randhir Kapoor) is attending a film festival in Moscow.

As for Diwali this year,it’s going to be salads in London, rather than sweets in Mumbai. “I will miss my favourite Diwali goodies–– besan laddoo, boondi laddoo and kaju katli. Now I eat everything as I am no longer interested in being stick-thin. My family,Saif and my fans like me looking voluptuous,” says the actress, denying reports that her wedding to Saif has been postponed,as it was never fixed for February,“It will happen when it has to,and as of now there are no plans.”

Once back from London, the actress will get into the prep mode for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, for which she starts shooting in the third week of November. “It’s something which I am looking forward. Madhur’s films are sensational and I am going to immerse myself completely into my character of an actress who is schizophrenic. Mentally,it’s going to be very taxing, that’s why it will be the only film I will be doing till April next year!”
