Asha is the goodwill ambassador of GIMA

The Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) has chosen legendary singer Asha Bhosle as its goodwill ambassador.

The Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA),which will honour and applaud talent for excellence across film and non-film music,has chosen legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle as its goodwill ambassador.

“It’s my ‘Asha and your Asha’ (our collective hope) that GIMA will make a difference to our music industry in recognising real talent in all music genres,” she said on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The first edition of GIMA will be held in the metropolis on November 10.

In addition to 10 non-film and 11 film music categories,there will be an award for the Best Anti-Piracy Initiative.

GIMA has received 940 entries including 223 albums. Six Bollywood films–‘3 Idiots’,’Karthik Calling Karthik’,’Kaminey’,’Ishqiya’,’Love Aaj Kal’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’–have been nominated in the ‘Film-Music’ category.

Legends and new talent alike are vying for the honours in the ‘Non-Film’ music category and the nominations include Ustad Rashid Khan,Ustad Zakir Hussain,Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia,Dr L Subramaniam,Shubha Mudgal,Lata Mangeshkar,Kailash Kher,Mohit Chauhan and Purnima Chaudhuri.
