Stand-up comic Kunal Kamra has been in the news ever since a clip from his latest comedy special, Naya Bharat, in which he refers to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar (traitor)”, went viral. This comment not only invited sharp criticism from Shinde’s Shiv Sena but also led to the closure of The Habitat, a well-known comedy venue in Mumbai, where the comedian shot the video. Nonetheless, according to NDTV, the comedian has refused to apologise.

This, however, is not the first time the comedian has been unapologetic about his comments. Just last year, Kunal made remarks against Salman Khan during one of his shows and refused to apologise even after they sparked controversy. In his stand-up set, he referred to the court case in which Salman was accused of poaching two blackbucks in 1998. He also mentioned the 2002 hit-and-run case, in which the Bollywood star was accused of ramming his car into a pavement in Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others. He also took a dig at Salman’s reality show Bigg Boss, cursing him and claiming that he does not fear the star.

It was reported that post his show, Salman Khan took legal action against him. This news was shared by Kamal R Khan, also known for his bold statements. Taking to his X handle, Kamaal shared a video of Kunal from the show, and wrote, “According to reports Salman Khan is filing defamation case against Kunal Kamra for abusing him. Kunal is doing only comedy So Salman shouldn’t get angry. Watch the video!”

Quote tweeting KRK’s tweet, Kunal wrote, “I am not a flying bird or a stationary footpath & I don’t apologise for jokes anymore.”

Kunal has often landed in controversy for his bold statements against famous personalities. He has often commented on personalities like Kangana Ranaut, as well as famous journalists and other politicians.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacted to Kunal’s comment on Shinde and said, “Everyone has a right to perform stand-up comedy. But freedom should not be unrestrained behaviour. Kamra should apologise for his behaviour. The insult of leaders cannot be tolerated. Action will be taken against him as per the law.”
