Vivek Agnihotri says he found Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, Pathaan superficial: ‘He can do far better’

Vivek Agnihotri’s latest release, The Vaccine War, is currently running in theatres, along with Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. In a recent interview, the filmmaker shared his opinion on SRK’s blockbuster and stated that he found it ‘superficial.’ He also claimed that Shah Rukh’s social media agency attacked him on social media.

Speaking about Jawan, Vivek told Siddharth Kannan, “I think his recent films are very superficial. He can do far better than that.” When asked specifically if he was referring to Pathaan and Jawan, the filmmaker said, “Haan jo bhi aai hai unke films (Whichever films have been released). Those that I have watched, I found them very superficial. They are okay at the level of an action film but to present them as a standard of filmmaking and that this is the end of show business, I don’t agree with that. Then I think it’s a psycho frenzy. I have a problem with that.”

The filmmaker also claimed that Shah Rukh’s social media agency ‘attacked’ him. ‘The trolls and bots created by Shah Rukh Khan’s social media agency, have decided to attack Vivek Agnihotri. They have a feeling that I may…but I always praise him.”

Vivek’s film, The Vaccine War, was released on September 28 and initially had a slow start at the box office. It minted Rs 85 lakh and Rs 90 lakh on days 1 and 2, respectively. However, it has seen a rise in numbers, with the film earning Rs 1.50 crore on Saturday, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The Vaccine War stars Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Girija Oak, Raima Sen, Sapthami Gowda, and Anupam Kher in lead roles.

In contrast, SRK’s Jawaan has achieved significant success at the box office and had raked in Rs 1055 crores globally. His previous release of the year, Pathaan, was also a big hit and entered the coveted Rs 1000 crore club.
