Actor Vidya Balan reflected on being let down by somebody close to her, and said that the best thing to do in such a situation is to ‘walk away’. Vidya refused to identify this person, but made sure to establish that they aren’t a family member.

In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Vidya was asked about a past comment that she had made to this effect, and how ‘painful’ it was for her to have someone close to her shame her for how she looked. But since then, Vidya has not only spoken openly about embracing herself, but has also risen to greater heights in her career.

She said, “It’s always the closest people who hurt you the most, and all I’ll say is that I’m not referring to family here. It’s irrelevant who the person is at this point. But suffice to say that when someone matters a lot to you, and when they are super critical when they body-shame you, when they are just not supportive, it’s not nice. And the only thing for you to do at that point is to walk away. I did, and I’m so glad I did. It’s not any sort of judgement on that person, but I… I think better things were in store for me.”

Vidya is married to film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, and in the same interview, she looked back on their love story. She said that she credits Karan Johar for playing Cupid in their lives, and recalled how Karan conspired to bring them together at a party that he had thrown. Vidya’s last film was the acclaimed drama Jalsa, in which she starred alongside Shefali Shah. She will soon be seen in the mystery film Neeyat, and in Lovers.
