Actor Vicky Kaushal recalled anecdotes about working on the film Sanju, in which he played the supporting character Kamli. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film was based on the life of actor Sanjay Dutt, and starred Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. In a new interview, Vicky admitted that he had a little to drink before shooting a scene with Paresh Rawal in which Kamli was supposed to be drunk.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, he also revealed that he stayed at a lodge in Surat for a few days, to pick up the mannerisms and language of Gujaratis. He said in Hindi, “I went to Gujarat by myself for a few days, and stayed at a lodge next to the railway station for three days. Five minutes away from the station, there is a lane where diamond traders operate. I was stunned to see people selling diamonds on the footpath; that’s when I realised how rich some people in our country are.”
Recalling his scene with Paresh Rawal, who played Sunil Dutt in the film, Vicky said that he had also auditioned for the movie with the same scene. “On the day of the shoot, I had a little to drink to get the scene right,” he said sheepishly, adding, “It was a night scene, but we shot it in at 9 am. So, along with my idli and sambhar, I had a little (to drink).”
Sanju was released in 2018, and emerged as a massive hit. It made nearly Rs 600 crore worldwide. Vicky will reunite with Hirani this month, on the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki. But before that, he’ll star in the biopic Sam Bahadur, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film will be released on December 1, when it’ll clash with Ranbir’s Animal.
