Varun Dhawan dismisses online outrage over his stage interaction with Gigi Hadid, says it was ‘planned’; supermodel reacts

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, who recently performed at the opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai, was criticised after he lifted supermodel Gigi Hadid in his arms and spun her around on the stage. On Sunday, Varun reacted to the trolls and clarified that everything was pre-planned.

He wrote on Twitter, “I guess today you woke up and decided to be woke. So lemme burst ur bubble and tell u it was planned for her to be on stage so find a new Twitter cause to vent about rather then going out and doing something about things. Good morning.”

Gigi Hadid took to Instagram and shared the video on her stories. The supermodel tagged Varun and thanked him for “making my Bollywood dreams come true.”

The actor’s fans sympathized with him and thanked him for clarifying the issue. One of the fans said, “It’s crazy how people believe that such things ‘just happen’. Sad how you have to defend yourself nowadays!” Another said, “All i can say is Varun Dhawan is counted among one of the most respectful & gentle male actors in bollywood.”

In the video doing rounds on the internet, Varun can be seen pulling Gigi to the stage amid his performance. He then carried her in his arms and spun her around. Varun also gave a peck on her cheeks before she exited the stage. Internet users called Varun’s act ‘embarrassing’ and criticised the actor.

On Saturday, a slew of celebrities were spotted arriving for the event. Apart from Gigi Hadid, international celebrities like Law Roach, Tom Holland, Zendaya and Nick Jonas among others were also snapped at the NMACC gala.
