Tiger Zinda Hai VFX breakdown video makes fans wonder how Salman Khan-starrer had ’10 times better’ effects than Pathaan
Yash Raj Films' VFX arm has unveiled a visual effects breakdown video for Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer Tiger Zinda Hai. Watch here.

Yash Raj Films’ visual effects department, YFX has launched a YouTube channel that has been populated with videos that break down the VFX work that went into films such as Pathaan, War, Samrat Prithviraj, Sultan and many more. The three-minute breakdown reel for the film Tiger Zinda Hai shows the extensive work that went into creating digital environments and completely CG animals for key sequences.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Tiger Zinda Hai is the second film in YRF’s Spy Universe, which began with the first Tiger movie — Ek Tha Tiger — and recently continued with the blockbuster Pathaan. Tiger 2 starred Salman Khan as the titular spy, with Katrina Kaif as his love interest, the former ISI agent Zoya.
The breakdown video opens with several shots from the film’s opening action scene, in which Tiger takes on a pack of wolves. The wolves were entirely computer generated, the video reveals. But while CGI wolves might not be all that surprising, fans might be taken aback to learn that relatively minor details, like lanterns and crowds, were also created digitally.
In fact, Tiger’s gesture of love for Zoya, a ‘painting’ of sorts in the snow, was also created with the help of visual effects. The filmmakers also used VFX to add character to certain moments, like increasing the amount of dust in shots of the desert, or fleshing out backgrounds, or adding extras to exterior shots. Of course, shots of ruined cities and old palaces were all created with visual effects, leaving fans impressed. “Best movie of spy universe no doubt. Seems realistic and more grounded,” one person commented. Another person wrote, “How come the VFX and CGI of Tiger zinda hai are like 10 times better than Pathaan which released 5 years later?” Others also agreed that Tiger Zinda Hai had better effects than Pathaan and also War. “The VFX is getting better in Bollywood, I didn’t even realise some of the scenes in the movie were fake,” one fan commented.

Incidentally, the breakdown video doesn’t at all reveal any face replacement that was applied to Salman Khan, maybe because a similar video previously revealed that the actor’s abs were enhanced with CGI. In fact, Salman alluded to this speculation at a recent event, where he unbuttoned his shirt and rhetorically asked if everybody still thinks his abs are fake
The Spy Universe will continue with the upcoming third Tiger film, War 2, and then a Tiger vs Pathaan crossover. But before that, Salman will star in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
