Producer Guneet Monga, who brought the Oscar home with The Elephant Whisperers, on Thursday said that winning the coveted award has not added any extra pressure when it comes to backing films. Monga added that she doesn’t “make content for an award”.

At the trailer lunch of her upcoming production venture Kathal in Mumbai, the producer was asked if winning an Oscar has added any kind of pressure. She responded by saying, “No, we are ready for these pressures. To be honest, all we can do is wake up every morning and be honest with the story that we are telling. All the awards and rewards are not under our control. Every film has its own journey. You never make content for an award. You just make a piece of cinema because you love the story.”

Guneet Monga then emphasied how it is important for her to fall in love with the story she’s telling through the projects she backs. “With the number of years it takes (to make a film), you have to fall in love with it every day. It is a labour of love of three-four years.”

Monga also said that when she is producing a film, she makes sure to not “take the audience’s time for granted”. She said, “The idea is that whenever a piece of cinema comes you should be able to go out there and enjoy it. We don’t take your time for granted. We make sure that the content is worth the time that the audience gives us. Other than that, we don’t take much pressure because we know that we have told our story with all honesty, we did everything we could and now it is with the audience.”

Kathal, directed by debutant director Yashowardhan Mishra, stars Sanya Malhotra, Vijay Raaz, Anant Joshi, Rajpal Yadav and Neha Saraf. The film will stream on Netflix from May 19.
