Tere Ishk Mein trailer: Dhanush’s character is equal parts intriguing and confusing in this Anand L Rai love story

After weeks of speculation, the makers of Tere Ishk Mein finally unveiled the film’s trailer on Friday. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the romantic drama stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon in lead roles. The film marks the third collaboration between Rai and Dhanush, following their successful outings with Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re.

Rai has crafted a trailer that is equal parts intriguing and confusing—intentionally so. He keeps viewers guessing about the true nature and intentions of Dhanush’s character, Shiv.

The trailer opens with a man introducing Shiv as a Flight Lieutenant. Kriti Sanon, teary-eyed, confronts him: “Still aggressive, still hungry. You love this image of yours, don’t you?” As Dhanush breaks down, the narrative slips into flashback, taking us to their college days.

We see Shiv embroiled in a fight when Kriti yells “Stop it!”—the moment that sparks their love story. Dhanush cheekily remarks, “If a girl this gorgeous raises her hand, it deserves to land on somebody’s cheek.” Like a classic trope, Kriti insists, “I could turn you into a nice, non-violent kind of guy.” But Shiv warns her: “Why are you bent on ruining a young man’s life, madam? If I fall in love, I’ll burn down the city of Delhi.”

Aanand L Rai then stitches together a montage with Kriti Sanon’s voiceover: “Girls dream of finding their prince charming. Even in love, they try to stay logical.” She admits, “And I didn’t know how to explain that to him.”

Just when their romance begins to look messy yet magnetic, things take a darker turn. From Kriti Sanon saying, “Let’s quickly get married,” we switch to her confessing, “I know the psychology of guys like him. When they see a girl in her wedding dress, they leave.”

What follows is chaos—an injured, bloodied Dhanush burning down what appears to be a wedding venue, declaring: “I told you—if I fall in love, I will burn down the city of Delhi!” He even barges into her haldi ceremony.

Aanand L Rai then offers a glimpse of Shiv’s violent rage. Dhanush is heard saying: “You will die, Pandit. Love will only lead you to death, not salvation.” He continues: “Don’t chase mukti. Burn in your love so fiercely that she falls at your feet and begs: Please accept me.”

Fittingly, Kriti’s character is named Mukti.

The trailer closes with his outburst: “I am done with this bloody love! I just want to fight now.” followed by brief flashes of Dhanush as a Flight Lieutenant—raising more questions than answers.

While Aanand L Rai offers a powerful first look into his film’s world, he skillfully keeps the core plot tightly under wraps.
