Taha Shah, who became an overnight sensation after playing the role of Tajdaar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, recalls a time when he was unpopular and had to beg and plead with stylists and designers to give him clothes. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the pressure of always wearing different clothes for every spotting and how its a task to maintain that image. “I repeat my clothes, I don’t have so much money to waste,” said the actor. He also revealed that Manish Malhotra always stood by him even when he hadn’t tasted success.

In an interview with Zoom, Taha Shah was asked about the pressure of not repeating clothes in public, to which the actor replied, “Yes you have to maintain certain style because every time people see you, wearing different clothes is like a must. Because whenever people see you, you need to look different. So you have to maintain that and it becomes a bit difficult but does it mean that when I am going out, I will not wear the same thing? I will wear it, I don’t have so much money to waste.”

The actor, who now claims to be blessed with several stylists and designers who willingly give him clothes for events, recalls the time when he had to beg for the same.

“We are blessed to have so many stylists and designers who give us clothes now. But this is after I got the recognition. But when I wasn’t that popular, nobody gave me clothes, I had to keep begging and pleading them to give me clothes. But, there are also a few people who always stood by me, I will have to admit it too. One of them was Manish Malhotra. He would always invite me to events and dress me up. He has always told me to reach out to him if I needed anything. When I went to Los Angeles to attend a film festival, Manish Malhotra gave me his clothes. He did the same when I went to Dubai. I never had to pay for any of it,” said the actor.

Taha Shah began his acting career with the 2011 film Luv Ka The End, where he played an anti-hero. In 2013, he featured in the Dharma Productions’ film Gippi. He has also been part of films Barkhaa, Baar Baar Dekho, and Ranchi Diaries, among others. In Heeramandi, the actor played the love interest of the character of Sharmin Segal, Alamzeb. The show, currently streaming on Netflix, also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Fardeen Khan, among others.
