Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari box office collection day 6: Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari managed to collect just Rs 3 crore on Tuesday, taking its six-day total to Rs 36.25 crore. The Varun Dhawan–Janhvi Kapoor starrer faced stiff competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, which has turned out to be a massive box office success, earning Rs 290 crore in six days — nearly 80% higher than the romantic drama. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari received about one-third of the screens compared to Kantara Chapter 1. On release day, it had around 3,021 shows, which were reduced to 2,802 by day six. In contrast, Kantara Chapter 1 opened with over 8,000 shows across multiple languages — Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam — and continues to run strong with around 7,887 shows nationwide. The Rishab Shetty film was made on a budget of Rs 150 crore, while Shashank Khaitan’s film reportedly cost Rs 80 crore to produce. The film features Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf in key roles. His last clear hit was Sui Dhaaga (2018), which earned Rs 125 crore worldwide on a Rs 40 crore budget. Since then, his releases — Kalank, Street Dancer 3D, and Coolie No. 1 (which skipped theatrical release) — have failed to make an impact. Jugjugg Jeeyo and Bhediya performed moderately, just crossing the breakeven mark, while his last action drama, presented by Jawan director Atlee, ended up a debacle with a total of only Rs 30 crore in 20 days. For Janhvi Kapoor, too, a major box office success has been elusive since her debut in Dhadak (2018). In 2025 alone, she appeared in three films — Param Sundari, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and Homebound. While Param Sundari underperformed, Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has earned critical acclaim and was recently selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also marks Khaitan’s return to the big screen as a director after a successful streak with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), and Dhadak (2018). In the interim, he ventured into OTT with Ajeeb Daastaans and Govinda Naam Mera. With strong competition from Kantara Chapter 1 and declining show counts, it remains to be seen whether Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari can reach its breakeven point in the coming week.
