Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari box office collection Day 1: After a decent start at the box office on its opening day, the Karan Johar-backed family drama Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, directed by Shashank Khaitan and starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf, witnessed a decline in its Day 2 collections. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 5.25 crore on Friday (early estimates), taking its total two-day collection to Rs 14.5 crore. While the film benefited from a holiday release on Gandhi Jayanti, its second day being a working Friday made a drop in collections somewhat expected.

On Day 2, the film recorded an average 18.01% Hindi occupancy across India. Morning shows started on a slow note with just 9.06%, followed by a slight improvement in the afternoon (17.44%) and evening (18.33%) slots. The day ended with a relatively better yet modest 27.20% in night shows. In terms of regional performance, Delhi led with the highest number of shows (744) but had a low occupancy of 16.75%. Mumbai, with 547 shows, fared slightly better with an occupancy rate of 21.5%.

 Day 1  Rs 9.25 Cr
 Day 2  Rs 5.25 Cr
 Total   Rs 14.5

When compared to the previous films of its lead actors, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is performing moderately. Varun Dhawan’s last release, Baby John, was a box office disaster and saw an even steeper drop on Day 2 with just Rs 4.75 crore, after opening at around Rs 11 crore. On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor’s last outing, the romantic drama Param Sundari, witnessed growth on its second day with a stronger Rs 9.25 crore, bringing its two-day total to Rs 16.5 crore. Director Shashank Khaitan’s earlier hit with Varun Dhawan, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, had a more robust Day 2 collection of Rs 14.72 crore, while even Kalank (also starring Dhawan), despite being a massive commercial disappointment, managed Rs 11.45 crore on its second day.

The underperformance of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is being attributed to a mix of negative reviews, limited buzz among moviegoers, and tough competition at the box office. Despite extensive promotional efforts by the cast, the film has been overshadowed by the release of Kantara Chapter 1, one of the most anticipated films of the year. Rishab Shetty’s film is dominating both critical and commercial conversations. And it has reportedly grossed Rs 100 crore in just two days, with a staggering Rs 45 crore coming in on Day 2 alone.

Given the overwhelmingly positive word of mouth for the Kannada folklore epic, it appears increasingly difficult for the Varun-Janhvi starrer romantic drama to recover lost ground and regain momentum over the weekend.
