Like you, Suniel Shetty is also bothered by rising tomato prices: ‘It has affected our kitchen, I eat fewer tomatoes these days’
Contrary to popular belief, Suniel Shetty said the rising tomato prices have also affected stars like him.

The rising prices of tomatoes aren’t just affecting regular households, but also movie stars like Suniel Shetty. In a new interview, the actor said that because he is also a restaurateur, he has been forced to compromise on the taste and quality of the tomatoes that he’s purchasing because of the rising prices.
He said that contrary to public opinion, he has always been a haggler, and only buys produce at the best price. Chatting with Aaj Tak, Suniel also spoke about the various fruits and vegetables that he grows at his Khandala farmhouse, and said that unlike other actors who turn become environmentally conscious during film promotions, he has always believed in living a simple lifestyle.
Suniel said in Hindi, “My wife Mana only buys vegetables for one or two days, we believe in eating fresh produce. By the prices for tomatoes are skyrocketing these days, and this has affected our kitchen as well. I eat fewer tomatoes these days. People might think that since I’m a superstar, these things wouldn’t affect me. But that isn’t true, we have to deal with such issues as well.”
He said that that he orders vegetables through an app. “If you look at the prices on these apps, you’ll be shocked. They’re cheaper than all shops and markets. I order from the app, but not because it’s cheaper, but because they sell fresh produce. They even tell you where the vegetables were grown, and farmers get direct benefits…” He said that people might assume that actors aren’t informed about these household matters, but sometimes, they’re more aware than even regular people. “I am also a restaurateur, and I’ve always bargained for best prices. But with rising prices of tomatoes, people have had to compromise on taste and quality. I have too.”
Retail tomato prices have shot up to Rs 155 per kg across major cities in the country due to the supply disruption caused due to rain in the producing region, as per the official data.
