Rajkummar Rao-starrer Srikanth released in theatres on Friday and the film has received many positive reviews. On its first day in theatres, the film has managed to earn Rs 2.25 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. Srikanth’s opening day collections are significantly higher than the opening day collections of films like Laapataa Ladies and Madgaon Express, which created some buzz but could not make a dent at the box office. While Laapataa Ladies could only make Rs 75 lakh, Madgaon Express made Rs 1.63 crore.

Srikanth witnessed an overall occupancy of 12.14 percent in India on the day of its release, with most people catching the night show in theatres. In Mumbai, where there were 484 shows, the occupancy stood at 13.25 percent. In Delhi and NCR with 763 shows, the occupancy witnessed was 12 percent.

The film is the biopic of Srikanth Bolla, the founder of Bollant Industries, and is directed by Tushar Hiranandani. Srikanth’s story is especially noteworthy as he overcame all odds despite being visually challenged.

In comparison to recent releases like Vidya Balan and Pratik Gandhi starrer Do Aur Do Pyaar and Dibaker Banerjee’s LSD2, the film has had a strong start at the box office. While Do Aur Do Pyaar could only make Rs 50 lakh on first day, LSD 2 started its box office journey with just Rs 15 lakh. Srikanth has also performed better than Rao’s last few releases. His last theatrical release Bheed made Rs 40 lakh on the first day and HIT: The First Case made Rs 1.35 crore, as per Bollywood Hungama.

Srikanth, backed by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar of T-Series, also stars Jyothika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar in pivotal roles.
