Actor Sonakshi Sinha, who recently shut down Mukesh Khanna for questioning her upbringing, seemed to be in no mood to spare anybody during a roundtable discussion with her peers. Sonakshi said that she was once told by a male actor that she looked too old to be cast opposite him in a film, even though he is much older than her in real life. She said that she’s fortunate to not have worked with the actor in question, because she has no interest in collaborating with people like him.

Asked about the pressures that women in the film industry are still bound by, she said in a roundtable discussion on Zoom, “It’s very evident that the same kind of expectations do not (apply) to a man. They are not age-shamed when they are romancing women who are 30 years younger than them. They are not shamed for having bellies, or less hair. It’s very obvious that the women have to take the brunt of it all.”

Sonakshi continued, “In fact, I’ve had to deal with actors who are older than me who’ve said, ‘She looks older than us’. I just want to thank them. I don’t want to work with a person like you. It’s always the woman who is struggling to move past that, to push those barriers down, and to pave her way in something that should be as smooth as it is for a man. We’re all artists, at the end of the day, and for women, it shouldn’t be that much of a struggle.” Sonakshi yelled rhetorically, “Arey, main tumse 5-6 saal choti hoon!”

Recently, Sonakshi clapped back at Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna, who questioned her dad Shatrughan Sinha’s parenting, because she once failed to answer a question related to the Ramayana on Kaun Banega Crorepati. She wrote in an Instagram story, “Yes, I may have blanked out that day, a human tendency, and forgotten who the Sanjeevani Booti was brought for, but clearly, you have also forgotten some of the lessons of forgive and forget taught by Lord Ram himself.”
