Smriti Mandhana’s father discharged as wedding with Palash Muchhal remains postponed; Team India deletes wedding videos
Smriti Mandhana's father Shrinivas has been discharged and is said to be out of danger, but there's been no update on the new wedding date of the cricketer and her fiancé, music composer Palash Muchhal.
Palash Muchhal and Smriti Mandhana were supposed to get married on Sunday, but their wedding was indefinitely postponed. Two days after the wedding of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal was postponed indefinitely after her father Shrinivas fell ill in the lead-up to the ceremony, he has been dishcharged from the hospital in Sangli, his hometown where the wedding was scheduled to take place. Shrinivas is now completely stable, and he’s out of danger.
Smriti’s father discharged
After he got symptoms of a heart attack, the doctors performed an angiography, but didn’t find any blockages. They also informed his family, leading to which Smriti’s father was discharged, as per India TV. On Sunday, Shrinivas’ health deteriorated suddenly while having breakfast and he had to be admitted in haste, according to Smriti’s manager Tuhin Mishra.
“Today in the morning, when Smriti’s father was having breakfast, his health deteriorated. We waited for a bit, thinking he would get fine. But when it deteriorated further, we called for an ambulance and took him to the hospital, and he is under observation,” said Tuhin. He also added that since Smriti is very close to her father, she’s decided to put the wedding on hold indefinitely until he gets well. “Smriti is clear, she wants to see her father well and then get married,” added Tuhin.
Wedding remains postponed
Now that Smriti’s father is discharged and is out of danger, the wedding however still remains indefinitely postponed. There’s been no update regarding the new wedding date by either Tuhin or anyone from Smriti or Palash’s families. In fact, a day after Smriti deleted her engagement and pre-wedding festivities posts from her Instagram handle, her teammates followed suit and deleted the viral engagement announcement video they’d made and uploaded with her.
The announcement of the engagement, which featured Smriti dancing with some of her India teammates to the tune of “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from Rajkumar Hirani’s 2006 blockbuster comedy Lage Raho Munnabhai is not to be seen on her page anymore. It was originally shared by her teammate and close friend Jemimah Rodrigues, but is not visible on her Instagram account either. It had over a million likes.
Palash’s sister Palak, who is a playback singer, tried to douse the speculation by sharing a brief note, insisting that the wedding was postponed solely due to bride-to-be’s father’s health. “Due to Smriti’s father’s health, Smriti and Palash’s wedding has been put on hold. We request you all to respect the privacy of both families during this sensitive time,” she stated on Monday. Neither the cricketer nor her fiancé has so far commented on the issue.
Palash Muchhal hospitalised after returning to Mumbai
Palash was also hospitalized due to viral infection and stress-induced health issues. His mother Amrita Muchhal told Hindustan Times, “Palash ko uncle se bahut zyada attachment hai. Smriti se zyada yeh dono close hain. Jab unko ho gaya toh Smriti se pehle Palash ne decision liya ki usko abhi phere nahi karne jab tak uncle theek nahi ho jaate (Palash is extremely attached to Smriti’s father. The two of them are even closer than Smriti is with him. When he fell ill, it was Palash, before Smriti, who decided that they should not go ahead with the wedding rituals until he gets better),” she said. Palash and sister Palak returned to Mumbai on Sunday, leading to speculation about the wedding and why it was cancelled.
Speculation regarding the reason for postponement of Palash-Smriti wedding
Amid rumours, neither the Muchhal nor Mandhana families have commented on when the marriage is supposed to happen. The family hasn’t yet confirmed the revised wedding ceremony date. The fact that wedding videos have been removed led to a lot of speculation on social media.
