Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, who on Wednesday announced his upcoming film I Want To Talk with Abhishek Bachchan, recently revealed that he had been working on a biopic of legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar. During an interaction with Scroll, Shoojit shared that he had been researching Kishore Kumar’s life for the last four years but decided to drop the project after discovering that another filmmaker, Anurag Basu, was working on the same subject.
He explained, “I had been working on a script on the life of Kishore Kumar. I did almost three to four years of research with the family, but there were a couple of other scripts being worked on at the same time, including by Anurag Basu.”
Interestingly, Shoojit’s last film, Sardar Udham, was also a biopic, based on the life of Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.
Rumours are swirling that Anurag Basu has approached Aamir Khan to portray Kishore Kumar in his biopic. A report in Pinkvilla had earlier quoted a source close to the production as saying, “The Kishore Kumar biopic is a subject close to the heart of Anurag Basu and Bhushan Kumar. Aamir is also a big admirer of Kishore Kumar and loved the vision that Basu has. The filmmaker has treated it very differently, and that’s what has fascinated Aamir the most.”
Despite the reports, neither Anurag nor Aamir has made any official statement on the matter. Meanwhile, Aamir is gearing up for the release of his next film, Sitaare Zameen Par.
