Shekhar Suman recalls time when doctor said his son Aayush would live only for 8 months; he turned to Buddhism: ‘Miracles don’t happen’
Shekhar Suman said that he felt very helpless when his son Aayush was battling an illness which eventually took his life.

Actor Shekhar Suman, who is currently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, has opened up about the time when his late son Aayush was battling a rare disease. Shekhar shared that upon learning about his son’s condition, he sought out the best doctors, turned to Buddhism, consulted astrologers, and eventually understood that miracles don’t happen. Despite a doctor’s prognosis of eight months, his son exceeded expectations and lived longer.
In an interview with Entertainment Live, Shekhar said that when he was informed about his son’s rare disease, the doctors gave a timeline of eight months. The actor said, “But he lived for four years, not eight months.”
Shekhar said that he took his son to London for treatment. However, when he was informed about heart transplant, the actor said no due to the risks involved. He said, “We were so helpless. My father, a doctor who has saved the lives of so many people, could not save his own grandson’s life. We showed him to the best doctors in the world. We also started practicing Buddhism. But miracles don’t happen.”
The actor continued, “We were very helpless. A part of us was dying with him everyday. Then there were signs that now he won’t live for long. And we could not see his condition. He started having hallucinations. Alka prayed ‘God, please take him. I can’t see his pain anymore.’ That day came and I carried his lifeless body in my hands. Main uske saath he leta raha, uske shareer ke saath, puri raat aur pura din.”
Shekhar’s younger son Adhyayan Suman also stars in Heermandi. The show is currently streaming on Netflix.
