Shamshera dialogue writer Piyush Mishra addresses the failure of Ranbir Kapoor film: ‘Have to compete with the revolution in South’
In a recent interview, dialogue writer Piyush Mishra discussed what led to the failure of Shamshera, stating how he will be more careful the next time.

Ranbir Kapoor made a big comeback last year with Shamshera, after a gap of more than four years. Playing a double role in the YRF’s period drama, fans had massive expectations. However, the film tanked terribly at the box office leaving the team disheartened. Actor Piyush Mishra, who was also the dialogue writer of the film, recently opened up about its failure and shared how he has no clue about what went wrong.
Sharing that while people mention the film failed because of its script, he added how it was also competing with the ‘revolution in the south. “I also didn’t understand why it didn’t work. People said it didn’t work due to the script. I think we have already seen fantastic stunts so many times. Now you will have to compete with them, the revolution in South. Baahubali was not merely CGI, it also had a very solid script. To compete with a Baahubali, you will have to write an equally brilliant script. Pushpa also had a very good script, it wasn’t made just like that. Adding CGI is only beneficial when you have a solid script, CGI without script is of no use,” he told Hindustan Times.
The Gangs of Wasseypur actor in the same breath also said, “I don’t know what went wrong with Shamshera but I will be more careful in future.” He also added that the quality of dialogues depends on the screenplay, “I derive my inspiration only from the screenplay. Dialogues depend on the screenplay. It’s not possible to write dialogues for a bad screenplay, at least for me it’s not possible,” the actor said.
Apart from the dialogues, Piyush Mishra also wrote the song “Hunkara”. Directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera also starred Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor.
The actor is now looking forward to his next release Kanjoos Makhichoos, which also stars Kunal Kemmu and Shweta Tripathi. He added that he picked up the project as it had ‘meat’ and gave him the chance to perform. Directed by Vipul Mehta, the film will soon drop on ZEE5.
