Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 movie Jab We Met is an important milestone in actor Shahid Kapoor’s filmography. His character Aditya Kashyap is loved by many despite the film being predominantly about its female lead, Geet, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan. When Shahid heard the script, he knew Kareena’s character had more gravitas than his role. Still, he gave his nod for the film because he felt it presented lovers “normally”, unlike many other Hindi romantic dramas.

While speaking to Pinkvilla, Shahid shared he loved the script of Jab We Met from the word go. He said, “When I heard the script, I completely loved it. I didn’t have the strongest part. I knew the female part was the strongest part in the film, still, I wanted to be a part of the film.”

The actor added, “I felt it was a very relevant, new age love story where people were speaking like how normal people in their 20s speak, and not how people in their 40s acting to be 20s in movies speak. Imtiaz came up with something which was very real and relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted the film to be on my filmography.”

Jab We Met is the story of a bubbly, full-of-life girl Geet (Kareena), who meets a brooding Aditya (Shahid) during a train journey. Both of them miss their train, and she takes him to her hometown Bhatinda, Punjab. The film connected with the audience on an emotional level and became a huge success. The movie’s music is popular to this day.

Recently, there were rumours about a sequel to the film. But director Imtiaz Ali shut them down during an interview with News18. He said, “No, it’s not happening,” disappointing countless fans.
