Shah Rukh Khan knew that he needs a trademark style to become a star, says Jaaved Jaaferi: ‘Salman, Aamir are also stars but…’

Shah Rukh Khan has been a movie star for over 30 years now and even before he gained his stardom, the actor knew the way to get there. In a recent interview, actor Jaaved Jaaferi recalled working with the actor in a 1995 film and shared that even back then, before SRK had made it big, he knew what he had to do to become a star. Jaaved described SRK as an intelligent and wise man and said that they became quite friendly when they were shooting for the 1995 movie Oh Darling Yeh Hai India.

Talking to MensXP, Jaaved was asked about how contemporary stars don’t stand out in a crowd but stars of previous generations had a certain aura about them. Jaaved then recalled an anecdote and said, “I did this film with Shah Rukh Khan called Oh Darling Yeh Hai India. We got pretty close and we were shooting quite a lot. It was a pretty intensive shoot. He is a very intelligent guy. Of course, he is educated but he is also an intelligent guy. Really wise. He knew where he wanted to be. And he made a point, which I knew, but he just underlined it.”

Jaaved Jaaferi then recalled how Shah Rukh Khan explained the journey to be a star to him. “He said you know, to be a star, you need a certain style. A thing that is your own. He got that. And if you notice he stands out because he has got his own style. People may make fun of it but whatever…,” he recalled. Jaaved then demonstrated his statement by mimicking the style of Shatrughan Sinha, Dev Anand, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra and said that just a second of their mimicry makes it obvious that it belongs to them. He then proceeded to mimic Shah Rukh and said, “He is the only one in this generation who is identified with a style. Other actors don’t have that.”

Jaaved said that Shah Rukh understood this aspect of being a star and this is primarily the reason for him standing apart. He then added, “Salman is also a huge star. Aamir is a star but the style content I am talking about, that’s his style. He has got a trademark on it.”
