Shah Rukh Khan would sleep on the floor of the bus during Dil Se, recalls Tigmanshu Dhulia
Tigmanshu Dhulia recalled that Shah Rukh Khan was already a star by the time Dil Se was being made and he would quietly take a power nap during the lunch hour on the floor of the bus.

The tales of Shah Rukh Khan being an extraordinary co-star are endless. In a recent interview, director Tigmanshu Dulia recalled the time when he worked with SRK in Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se. Dhulia, who penned the dialogues of the 1998 film, recalled an incident highlighting Shah Rukh’s humility on the set.
The filmmaker-actor, in a chat with Mashable India, recalled that SRK was “already a superstar” when they were making Dil Se. He shared that Ratnam would shoot in distant locations and would sometimes make impromptu decisions about where they were going to shoot. He recalled that the lunch hour was a strict one-hour break during which Shah Rukh would finish his lunch as quickly as possible and then would take a nap on the floor of the bus. “He would take a nap on the floor of the bus. His boy would just put out a simple sheet for him on the floor and he would take a power nap. Shah Rukh never said that I am sleeping there,” he shared.
Tigmanshu Dhulia worked as an actor on Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero and said that he had not changed one bit, in terms of his humility, in all these years. “On Zero, since it was his own production, he would offer chairs to everyone. Ask everyone if they had their food. It felt like we are baraatis, and he is the ladkiwala and we have come to his house for a wedding. Even if he didn’t do it, no one would have a problem. He is Shah Rukh Khan. But no, his manners are extraordinary. He is a very humble man, very well mannered,” he shared.
Dhulia said that he is still the “brilliant” man that he saw all those years ago on Dil Se. “He has not changed one bit. It’s not like I meet him once a month. I meet him once every 3-4 years but he so much humility…”
Tigmanshu Dhulia played the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s father in 2018’s Zero.
