‘Shah Rukh Khan could’ve been a scientist’; school-mate Rahul Dev reflects on SRK’s brilliance: ‘He was a graced child, the definition of cool’
Shah Rukh Khan was Rahul Dev's senior at St. Columba School in New Delhi. They were part of the same cricket team.

Actors Rahul Dev and Shah Rukh Khan went to the same school in New Delhi, St Columba’s. The Pathaan star was Rahul Dev’s senior. In a recent interview, Rahul reminisced about his school days and shared how gifted Shah Rukh Khan was as a student. In an interview with Mamaraazi, the actor said that Shah Rukh was such a ‘brilliant’ student that he could’ve been a ‘scientist’ if he wanted to. He was also proficient in sports and other extra-curriculars.
He explained, “Our school was the first one to introduce computers in the country. There was an aptitude test for that. Only 20 kids got selected for it. Shah Rukh Khan was among the 20. He was the lead in the musicals and those were very serious shows. He has always been a part of theatre. He was good in academics, too. I have never seen him come second in any sports. He wasn’t like a boring nerd. He was the definition of cool in complete sense. Not in a frivolous sense. He wasn’t like a spoilt brat. He was a graced child.”
In another interview with Connect FM Canada, Rahul Dev recalled being in the same cricket team as SRK during their school days, where the Pathaan star was a wicket-keeper and Rahul a fast bowler. Rahul recalled, “That year Shah Rukh Khan earned the Sword of Honour award.” He also shared SRK had exceptional talent in sports such as football, hockey, cricket, and every game, during their school days.
“I don’t find it surprising that SRK has become a superstar. There will be no Shah Rukh Khan in the next 1000 years,” Rahul had said. The school friends starred together in the 2001 film Asoka.
Previously, singer Palash Sen, who was also SRK’s schoolmate, said in an interview with The Lallantop, “I really thought he would do something bigger than films. He’s an extremely intelligent man. We used to see the kind of results he got in school. He was very good at cricket, he was very good at hockey, he was good at dramatics, debating, he was a good orator. So, for someone who was good at so many things to do Hindi films was a little surprising for us. We belonged to the generation that looked down on Hindi films.”
